​The VFW is dedicated to promoting patriotism and investing in our future generation. If you are a democracy-loving high school student interested in a $35,000 college scholarship or a patriotic middle school student interested in winning $5,000, these scholarships may be for you.

Teacher of the Year

Each year three exceptional teachers are recognized by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) for their outstanding commitment to teach Americanism and patriotism to their students.

Scout of the Year

Annually, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States recognizes individuals who are: Eagle Scouts, Girl Scout Gold Award recipients, Venture Summit Award recipients and/or Sea Scout Quartermasters who have risen above their peers in exemplifying the qualities of that rank.​

Memorial Scholarship Application

The Harold Earl “Buster” Wheeler Memorial Scholarship is dedicated to the memory of “Buster” Wheeler, a cherished member, comrade and leader of Post 1087. This scholarship is geared to assist those who will carry on his memory via exemplary character, leadership and excellence.
 
All Great Falls Junior and Senior High School students are welcomed to apply for this scholarship ($1,000 minimum; increases depending on donations)
 
Incomplete applications will not be considered. All applicants must complete and submit all of the documentation for consideration as one packet to VFW Post 1087, 4123 10th Ave. S., Great Falls, MT 59405 no later than April 15th of the calendar year, no exceptions

​The VFW Day of Service highlights how veterans continue to serve across America. There are all kinds of ways to take part in your community held between May 1 –31 each year.

The annual VFW Day of Service unites veterans across America around a common goal — showing the nation the impact veterans make in their communities. Will you join us?

If you are holding an event, you can rent our hall. Download the form, fill  it out and contact us.

Event hall information can be found on the page under community services, if you look down the list the event hall paperwork is there for you to look over costs, criteria and fill out, if you have a date in mind that is available. It’s best to give us a call at 14064541166 to see if it is, then fill out paperwork, bring it in and pay the fee, so we can reserve the date for you.

  • Do we cater? Yes, we can
  • Can someone else cater it? Yes, we can or someone else you would like to use.
  • Can you bring food or have a potluck situation? Yes. We have hot and cold trays for food to be placed in. Plenty of tables and chairs for your party to bring their food in crockpots or other items.
  • Do you have a projector? Yes. You can use your laptop to display what you need to for your party.

Treat Old Glory

Bring us your old worn out US Flags, and we shall dispose of them properly, with dignity, with the respect that it deserves. 

However, if you are planning to do so yourself, please ensure that you do so properly.  Here are two links that will show you how to do so properly:

Funeral honors functions at funerals for veterans
(a)Availability of Funeral Honors Detail Ensured.—The Secretary of Defense shall ensure that, upon request, a funeral honors detail is provided for the funeral of any veteran, except when military honors are prohibited under section 985(a) of this title. (See regulation)


We, veterans, do not want any veteran who deserves recognition to be forgotten.
